SELANGOR (April 9): Pure Mylk Sdn Bhd is partnering with global food processing and packaging company Tetra Pak to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and businesses in Malaysia to develop and produce plant-based beverages. The company launched its new innovation showroom on Wednesday in Pulau Indah, Selangor.
Founded in 2023, Pure Mylk is a contract manufacturing firm specialising in non-dairy beverage solutions. The firm’s manufacturing plant, located in the industrial area of Pulau Indah, includes research and development labs, sensory testing rooms, a pilot plant, a showroom and a training centre to help companies manufacture plant-based beverages.

“[The Mylky Way] facility was built not just as an extension of our factory but as a strategic infrastructure where the Malaysian plant-based beverage market could grow from. This is as we are seeing a demand from the younger and health-conscious shoppers’ interest in health, sustainable and alternative nutrition,” said Markus Khoo, CEO and founder of Pure Mylk during his opening speech at the Mylky Way showroom launch.
Through the partnership, Tetra Pak will provide recyclable and sustainable packaging solutions to support Pure Mylk’s clients.
“From Tetra Pak, we bring our technology, our expertise and sustainable packaging standards that allows brands to scale up. We want to enable local brands to innovate, co-pack and reach regional markets with confidence, speeding up their innovation journey and accelerate their position as market leader,” said Marcelo Perazzo, managing director for Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines and Indonesia at Tetra Pak.
At the launch, Datuk Dr Mohammad Yusof Apdal, deputy minister of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation said the plant-based beverage market in Malaysia is projected to reach US$229 billion (RM911.06 billion) by 2032.
Amid growing global challenges related to food security and climate change, there is an urgent need to develop more sustainable, innovation-led food systems, he said. “This innovation centre will strengthen the food and beverage industry, particularly within the plant-based segment, which is experiencing rapid growth,” he added.
He also noted that the innovation hub reflects the government’s commitment to developing food solutions that meet evolving consumer demands, in line with Malaysia’s National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy 2021–2030, which emphasises addressing national priorities such as food security.
“This initiative is further supported by Bioeconomy Corporation, an agency under Mosti that spearheads the development of Malaysia’s bio-based and biotechnology industries. Its investment in the Mylky Way Innovation Centre reflects the government’s aspiration for the biotechnology sector to contribute 5% to Malaysia’s GDP by 2030, as outlined in the National Biotechnology Policy 2.0,” he said.
Currently, Pure Mylk’s portfolio spans a wide range of ingredients, from commonly used bases such as oats and almonds to a variety of grains and nuts including macadamias, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and sesame seeds.
